Welding is the process of joining the materials to be joined with the help of heat or pressure and with or without additional material. Welding is a method used to combine similar or identical alloy materials or metals with melting temperatures close to each other. These materials are melted or pressurized by welding process.

The first source in our country was used in Gölcük and İstinye shipyards in the years of 1920. The first welding workshop was established in 1935 in Eskişehir. The welding process was first discussed as a technique in 1951 in Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Today, almost all kinds of welding machines and electrodes are produced in the industrial sector and used in all kinds of manufacturing. Although there are more than fifty welding methods in practice, there are basically two welding methods. They are the melting and solid state (pressure) source. They have many different species whose basic principle is the same.

Examples of melting sources are electric arc welding and gas welding. Examples of solid state sources are fire source, resistance source and water gas source.

Welded structural elements are produced because they can be manufactured at very low cost, fully fulfill their function and the possibility of long-term use in the enterprise.

ISO 3834. Welded Manufacturing Qualification Management System standard has been prepared with the aim of guaranteeing the welding quality of the companies applying the welding in their enterprises and thus the product quality. As a result, this system is also a quality management system and its basic principles are similar.

The first principle of the ISO 3834 standard and the TS EN 15085-2 railway applications standard, which is the form of this standard applied to enterprises engaged in the production and repair of railway vehicles and parts, is the process approach. In the company, the processes appropriate to the welding methods and processes must be prepared and implemented. This is how the company can use its resources effectively and cost-effectively. All activities should be carried out in accordance with established procedures, job descriptions, workflows, job descriptions and implementation instructions. In this way, potential risks are recognized in a timely manner, timely response to hazards and timely measures are taken to prevent unexpected situations.

The second principle of the ISO 3834 standard is to be customer-oriented. As long as customer satisfaction is created, the company's reputation in the market increases and a competitive advantage is obtained.

Another principle of the standard is to ensure the participation of employees. As in all management systems, it is important for employees to be prone to teamwork, to embrace problems and to feel responsible for their solution in Welded Manufacturing Competence Management System.

As with other management systems, it is a principle of this standard to carry out continuous improvement activities.
