ISO TS 16949 Automotive Quality Management System has been effective in establishing the standard of the following organizations:

  • International Automotive Task Force
  • Technical Committee operating within the International Standards Organization
  • Automotive manufacturers
  • National trade associations

The members of the International Automotive Task Force, which is an international vehicle manufacturers group, include Daimler Chrysler, BMW Group, Fiat, Ford Motor, General Motors, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault and Volkswagen. Later, Japanese companies joined this group.

National trade associations include the German Automotive Industry Association (VDA), the American Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), the Italian National Association of Automobile Industry (ANFIA), the French Vehicle Equipment Federation (FIEV) and the UK Engine Manufacturers and Traders Association (SMMT). While the standard was revised in 2009, the Japanese Association of Vehicle Manufacturers (JAMA) joined these trade associations.

With the studies ISO TS 16949 Automotive Quality Management System standards have emerged. Automotive industry supplier companies that have installed this system in their businesses may apply to a certification body and ask for the audit whether the necessary conditions are met. Certification bodyIf the company is convinced that the company has fulfilled all the conditions and has carried out the system after the audit works to be carried out on this application, the company is entitled to receive ISO TS 16949: 2009 Automotive Quality Management System Certificate.

ISO TS 16949 Certificateis only given to automotive supplier industry suppliers. Today, almost all major car manufacturers work with suppliers that have ISO TS 16949 Automotive Quality Management System Certification.

The following documents should be prepared during application to the certification body:

  • Automotive Quality Management System Handbook. The manual outlines why the company applies the ISO TS 16949 standard, what its purpose is, how the standard is applied and how it is audited.
  • Automotive Quality Management System Policies. These policies are the company policies determined by the top management of the company in the areas of production, quality control, scratching of customer complaints, customer satisfaction and so on.
  • Business processes and application instructions. Work flow charts for all works performed in the company, documents explaining application procedures and control points.
  • Task Definitions. These are documents that show the authority and responsibility of the employees, job descriptions, who they work for and the employees who are connected to them.
  • Forms, tables, charts. These are all forms, tables, charts and similar documents that have been implemented to ensure that the system works in a healthy and systematic way.

These documents should be delivered to the certification body as a set or opened for inspection in a magnetic environment within easy reach of the auditors. Before the field audit commences, the certification body shall carry out the preliminary assessment on these documents and then initiate the field inspections.
