Representatives of a group of retailer companies operating in the fresh fruit and vegetable sector in the European Union countries came together with the aim of finding solutions to the concerns of making agricultural production under safe conditions and sustainability and established the EUREP group (Euro Retailer Produce Working Group). At the end of the work EUREPGAP Protocolhave prepared. With this protocol, based on the basic principles of the food safety system, control points were determined for all production stages and certain criteria were developed to comply with the specified control points.

In short, the principles of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) are included in this protocol. The Euro Handelsinstitut in Germany, a private research institute with no intention of making money, has been involved in the secretariat of EUREP since 2001. Afterwards, EUREPGAP Technical and Standards Committee was established and the studies for revising and updating EUREPGAP documents were transferred to this committee. While the Committee continues to set the criteria and standards for good agricultural practices, it has also initiated certification studies.

The documents were renewed several times after the commencement of the committee. The most recent renovation took place in 2007 and was named EUREPGAP at that time. GLOBALGAP has been changed to.

The number of producer companies holding GLOBALGAP Certificate is the UK, Netherlands and Spain. The most certified agricultural products are potatoes, apples and grapes.

GLOBALGAP CertificateFirst of all, it enables producers to find a better market for their products. This document increases the competitiveness of companies and ensures that they are ahead of their competitors in the market. Today, the retail companies that establish the GLOBALGAP System require that the producer organizations that send fresh fruits and vegetables to the European Union countries must have GLOBALGAP Certificate.

However, in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on Good Agricultural Practices issued by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock in our country, producers or producer associations having this certificate have the opportunity to benefit from the agricultural supports of the state. Producers or producer associations that have this certificate also benefit from interest rate cuts up to 60 percent in agricultural loans they will receive if they need it.
