AS9100 is the international Quality Management System standard for the Aerospace and Defense (AS&D) industry created by IAQG, and AS9100 Rev D (2016) is the newest version. Creating requirements with the standard provides suppliers with and to maintain a comprehensive quality system to meet ASD industry safe and reliable products as well as civil and military aviation requirements. “AS9100 Certified” indicates that an organization meets the requirements of AS9100D.
AS 9100 Certification
Specifically, AS9100 is an SAE document developed by the ISO TC20 Working Group 11 and supported by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG). This standard is recognized worldwide by participating countries using their own numbering rules. (For example, EN / AS9100 in Europe). Despite the different numbers, the standards are the same worldwide.
The AS9100 standard specifies QMS requirements for certification and implementation by organizations that design, develop and manufacture aviation products. If the organization creates a Quality Management System that meets these requirements, they may call the AS9100 Registration, resulting in an AS9100 Certificate.

The satellites of our country are four communication and one ground observation research satellites. These satellites were supplied from outside the country. However, due to the geo-strategic position of our country, it is necessary to have these satellites under their own control. Unfortunately, the knowledge, experience and infrastructure acquired within the scope of the projects and ongoing works in the field of satellite technologies to date are the starting points for future design and production of satellite systems. In the near future, our country will also be able to meet its own needs.

In the field of aerospace technologies, which is one of the fundamental requirements of a sustainable and competitive economy, our country needs to determine the right vision, use the right tools and establish the right collaborations. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to establish a strong infrastructure in the field of space and aviation technologies, to have financial resources, to train the scientists who will make these studies, to make legal arrangements, to establish the right systems and to raise awareness in this direction.

According to the reports of the European Defense and Aviation Association, 2007 as of year 285 billion in the world space and aviation market in the world. The number of employees in this field is over 1 million. America has 51 percent of this market and European countries have 34 percent. European countries are important in determining the future of space and aviation technologies in our country. While 442 thousand people work in the aerospace and aviation sector in European countries, this number does not reach 4 thousand in our country.

While these developments have been made in the aerospace sector, the AS 9100 Aerospace Industry Quality System standard has been developed by the International Quality Group Aerospace Industry. This standard is known as AS 9100 standard in America, EN 9100 standard in Europe and JIS Q 9100 standard in Far East countries. In our country, Turkish Standards Institute has published TS EN 9100 Aviation series - Quality management systems - Requirements (according to ISO 9001: 2000) and quality systems - A model standard for the design, development, production, installation and service quality assurance.

The Turkish Standards Institute has also published the TS EN 9110 standard, which regulates the requirements for aeronautical maintenance organizations, and the TS EN 9120 standard, which regulates the requirements for aerospace and defense distributors.
