Within the context of European Union relations in our country, harmonization studies for technical legislation were carried out by the Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade. These institutions were the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Health, the Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Environment and Transport.

In addition, in order to make our standardization system parallel to the European Union system, the Law on the Preparation and Implementation of Technical Legislation on Products numbered 2002, which came into force in 4703, was enacted. This law is briefly known as the Framework Law. This law regulates the conditions for placing the products on the market, the responsibilities of the producers and the distributor companies, the conformity assessment bodies and the obligations of the notified bodies to be established in our country, the studies on market surveillance and inspection, and the evaluation, prohibition and disposal of the products on the market. The following regulations were adopted following this law:

  • Regulation on Conformity Assessment Bodies and Notified Bodies
  • Implementing Regulation on the Attachment and Use of the CE Conformity Mark to the Product
  • Regulation on Market Surveillance and Inspection of Products
  • Between the European Union and Regulation on Notification of Technical Regulations and Standards in Turkey

In addition, the standards referred to by these directives are also harmonized Turkish standards. The Turkish Standards Institute is an organization that prepares the required standards, provides laboratory and certification services and has harmonized the EN standards (European Standards) which have an important role in the implementation of European Union technical legislation.

After the Customs Union Agreement with the European Union, all necessary technical arrangements in the trade of industrial products and processed agricultural products have been completed and our country has started to implement the common customs tariff of the European Union against third countries.
