The seventh title in the Quality Management System standard clauses is determined as service realization. The fifth article of this title is the provision of production and service and five different topics are covered under this title:

  • Control of production and service provision
  • Validity of processes for production service provision
  • Identification and traceability
  • Customer ownership
  • Service protection

Companies, raw materials, packaging materials and similar materials used to produce a goods or services, the customer may have delivered to the company. Customers may have requested the use of these materials in production. In this case, such materials delivered to the company are those that are owned by the customer but whose responsibility is the protection and use of the company. ISO 9001 Quality Management System Standard means that these materials are owned by the customer.

Companies should not confuse and accidentally use such materials delivered by customers with their own materials. In order to achieve this, it has to take the necessary measures. These materials must be kept intact and undamaged, and the responsibility rests entirely with the company.

If, for some reason, such materials are damaged, the customer must be notified immediately and prevent further growth of the damage. In addition, compensation of the damages should be sought.

The materials delivered by the customer should not be considered merely as concrete materials. A design information to be used in production, or the customer's specific production-specific requests and production-related information are also accepted in the customer property cascade.

In short, companies must take care of customer ownership while they are under or under their control. Any material submitted by the customer to be used in production or to combine the product with the intention to form the product must be identified, verified, protected and secured. Nonetheless, the customer must be notified and compensated for any nonconformities, deficiencies and damages. In addition, all records must be protected in accordance with the quality system requirements.
