The European Union went to product grouping within the framework of the New Approach program and determined the technical requirements for each group separately by grouping the products with certain characteristics. Afterwards, a new order was brought to the certification studies with the adopted Global Approach program and it was adopted that the conformity assessment procedures for inspection, testing and certification studies should be carried out by the notified bodies. The Modular Approach, which was adopted immediately after, determined the conformity assessment methods based on the characteristics of the products and their risk levels.

The issue that needs to be addressed here notified bodies It is concerned. In the modular approach, the risk levels of the products are determined as low risk and high risk. For low risk products conformity assessment work is done by the manufacturer companies themselves. If they have adequate inspection and test equipment, the manufacturer shall make a declaration of conformity and, if found appropriate, after the checks to be carried out by an accredited inspection and testing institution, if not, the CE mark on the product.

The products included in the directives are generally in the low risk group. However, if the product carries a high risk, then the manufacturer must request inspection and testing from a notified body.

The notified body is determined by the member states to carry out the inspection, testing and certification of high-risk products. The candidate institutions whose infrastructure is deemed sufficient for these procedures shall be notified to the European Commission. If the Commission makes the necessary assessments and deems appropriate, appoints them as notified bodies and publishes them in the Official Journal of the European Union. In this way, they gain the status of a notified body. Today, the number of notified bodies in the European Union countries is over 1500.

In our country, the Regulation on Conformity Assessment Bodies and Notified Bodies has been published within the scope of compliance studies. This regulation regulates the qualifications and working principles of the bodies and notified bodies that check and certify the conformity of the products to the relevant technical regulations.

In this context, many notified candidates from Turkey have been notified to the European Commission to obtain this status. But unfortunately Avrupa Birliği it was slow to evaluate and decide on these applications.

Today, the Turkish Standards Institute has received the status of notified body and its number is 1783. Since the control procedures performed before granting the status of notified body to the Turkish Standards Institute have not been accepted by the European Union, CE document their owners were still required to carry out a conformity assessment by an internationally recognized notified body. There is no such practice today.

The TÜRCERT certification body, which operates in our country, conducts certification studies with the authorities it has obtained from national and international accreditation institutions. However, in addition to these studies, technically, it provides various test and inspection services to its customers. If there are still doubts about CE marking and if you want to get more detailed information about conformity assessment studies conducted by Turkish Standards Institute, TÜRCERT is ready to serve in all matters with its experienced and experienced managers and employees.
